Counter Machines and Verification Problems

چکیده
We study various generalizations of reversal-bounded multicounter machines and show that they have decidable emptiness, in#niteness, disjointness, containment, and equivalence problems. The extensions include allowing the machines to perform linear-relation tests among the counters and parameterized constants (e.g., “Is 3x− 5y− 2D1 + 9D2 ¡ 12?”, where x; y are counters, and D1; D2 are parameterized constants). We believe that these machines are the most powerful machines known to date for which these decision problems are decidable. Decidability results for such machines are useful in the analysis of reachability problems and the veri#cation=debugging of safety properties in in#nite-state transition systems. For example, we show that (binary, forward, and backward) reachability and safety are solvable for these machines. c © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

The Complexity of Reachability Problems for Flat Counter Machines with Periodic Loops
This paper proves the NP-completeness of the reachability problem for the class of flat counter machines with difference bounds and, more generally, octagonal relations, labeling the transitions on the loops. The proof is based on the fact that the sequence of powers {R}i=1 of such relations can be encoded as a periodic sequence of matrices, and that both the prefix and the period of this seque...
متن کاملUndecidable Problems in Unreliable Computations
Department of Computer Science, University of Edinburgh, JCMB, Edinburgh EH9 3JZ, UK. e-mail: [email protected] Abstract. Lossy counter machines are defined as Minsky n-counter machines where the values in the counters can spontaneously decrease at any time. While termination is decidable for lossy counter machines, structural termination (termination for every input) is undecidable. This und...

متن کاملSafety Verification of Communicating One-Counter Machines
In order to verify protocols that tag messages with integer values, we investigate the decidability of the reachability problem for systems of communicating one-counter machines. These systems consist of local one-counter machines that asynchronously communicate by exchanging the value of their counters via, a priori unbounded, Fifo channels. This model extends communicating finite-state machin...
متن کاملWitness Runs for Counter Machines
In this paper, we present recent results about the verification of counter machines by using decision procedures for Presburger arithmetic. We recall several known classes of counter machines for which the reachability sets are Presburger-definable as well as temporal logics with arithmetical constraints. We discuss issues related to flat counter machines, path schema enumeration, and the use o...
متن کاملSecure Bio-Cryptographic Authentication System for Cardless Automated Teller Machines
Security is a vital issue in the usage of Automated Teller Machine (ATM) for cash, cashless and many off the counter banking transactions. Weaknesses in the use of ATM machine could not only lead to loss of customer’s data confidentiality and integrity but also breach in the verification of user’s authentication. Several challenges are associated with the use of ATM smart card such as: card clo...
